1983 Ibanez Rocket Roll II RR550 – Cherry Burst Hardtail Custom

This is a custom creation, based on the carcass of an ’83 Ibanez Rocket Roll II Flying V in Cherry Sunburst. Horrible things happen to V’s, and this one had horrible things happen to it. It was originally an 83 RR550 CS spec’d with a HardRocker tremolo, someone tried to rout it for a Kahler, which didn’t work out, so they routed it for a Floyd-rose, which also didn’t work. The holes were then plugged with a large piece of pine and the instrument was converted to a string-through. That’s where I found it, years, maybe decades later. All the work on the body and finish was done by Randy at RWR Guitars in Los Angeles, the setup was handled by the guys at Eric’s Guitar Shop in Van Nuys, CA – some of Los Angeles most talented technicians and luthiers worked on putting this one together.

The instrument was professionally rebuilt and converted to a hardtail and Gibraltar bridge setup like was used on Destroyers and Rocket Rolls from 1980-1982 and other high end Ibanez instruments. A new top was added, binding was replaced, and then the instrument was painted up as far as its original headstock so the serial number from the factory is retained. Everything above the level of the volute is original finish. The pickups are Dry Z Maxon tributes.

Weighs 7lb and 6oz, setup on 10’s, comes in an as-new TKL hardcase.

Condition 9/10 – guitar shows light play wear, light finish damage on the horn tips and non-original parts, unplugged holes for tuners.
